Rational Rec artists Paul B Davis, Charlie Fox and Emma Hart will be resident at The Woodmill
As part of the Rational Rec 2010 Commission, Paul B Davis, Charlie Fox and Emma Hart will be artists-in-residence at The Woodmill studio and gallery complex in Bermondsey from 28 June – 6 August 2010.
The artists working period at the Woodmill is titled ‘Rule In Rule Out’. The artists will transform their studio space into a rule factory, a place to think up and pilot rules: specifically the principles and rules for artistic collaboration.
The rule factory follows a three-tiered process: gathering and generating, design and tooling, and finally ruling in and out.
All the rules will either be generated in the factory, or submitted as ideas, to be processed and tested. All rules will be added to the Rule In tray. They will then be submitted for testing, adaptation and suitability, in breaking and remaking rules, testing to destruction and for adaptability. Rules rejected or deemed inappropriate for collaboration will be Ruled Out. This process will be worked on collaboratively.
During the residency, other artists and creative practitioners including Woodmill studio artists will be invited to respond and contribute to the compilation of collaborative rules and principles.
The residency will culminate in a public event, the Third Open Dialogue of the Rational Rec 2010 Commission, which will take place in the Woodmill Project Space.
Rational Rec would like to acknowledge generous support from he Woodmill team.
